Its a whole new era for Christina Aguilera who has announced her return to Las Vegas with a very different performance than her lively Xperience residency, which ran from 2019 to 2020. But one thing that is staying the same is her solid engagement to fiancé Matthew Rutler that reportedly has no plans to change anytime soon.
Aguilera, 42, and Rutler, 38, met on set of her 2010 movie Burlesque amid her divorce from ex-husband Jordan Bratman, with whom she shares son Max, now 14. Rutler and Aguilera got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2014 before they welcomed their daughter, Summer Rain, that same year.
In 2015, Aguilera hinted that there could be a long engagement ahead by tellingE! Newsthat she wants to “cherish” the big moment so it won’t feel “rushed.”
“Our love is secure enough that we don’t need a wedding to prove our commitment,” she said. “We are enjoying our daughter, our family and our work for now.”
Per Us Weekly, the singer told Women’s Health in 2016 that they were in the process of wedding planning. “We discuss it when we’re snuggling in bed, but it’s a casual conversation,” she said. However, the couple has yet to tie the knot.
In August 2022, a source gave Us Weekly an update on the couple’s lengthy engagement. “There are no wedding plans at the moment. [Christina] and Matt are happy the way they are,” the insider revealed. “They’re one of those coupleswho don’t need a documentto prove their love for each other.” The source said that the private couple are still “very much in love.”
While the couple, who the source described as “true homebodies,” keep their relationship private, the “Candyman” singer did share a sweet tribute to Rutler in April as he celebrated his birthday. “Happy birthday babe, love doing life with you,” she wrote in an Instagram post of a series of photos of Rutler.
We’re sure Rutler will be supporting Aguilera behind the scenes as she embarks on her latest series of Vegas shows. Aguilera hinted that this would a stripped back performance in an Instagram announcement. “I’m bringing an intimate, seductive and sophisticated new show to Las Vegas,” she said of the performances which will take place from December 30 through January and early February.
