Zacchaeus the Tax Collector: (Luke 19:1–10) Spending time with Jesus will make you honest.
Zacchaeus promised to repay those he had wronged and be honest in his dealings after meeting Jesus.
Zacchaeus wants to see The Son of God. Since he was a very short man, he had to climb a sycamore tree to see over the crowd.
Jesus came to him and told him to come out of the sycamore tree because Jesus wanted to come to his house for lunch.
Zacchaeus had been lying and stealing because he wanted more. He was greedy. But when he met Jesus, he became content with what he had. He became an example to others to be honest men instead of thieves.

The Ten Commandments are where to start if you seek clarity and direction. In the Ten Commandments, God makes it very clear how He feels about lies. This includes what many people call little white lies.

Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife: (Genesis 39) Be a trustworthy person, even if lands you in prison
Joseph refused to lie with Potiphar’s wife, maintaining his integrity and honesty. Joseph is an example of honesty.
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. At that moment, he could have thrown away his values. But he did not. He did the right thing, even if it landed him in prison.
In prison, Joseph was known as a trustworthy person.
This led to people turning to Joseph for advice while he was in prison, which led to his freedom and eventually a leadership position in Egypt.
Daniel in the Lion’s Den: (Daniel 6) God will be with you
In the Old Testament, we learn about Daniel, who was a man of God.
Daniel’s honesty and faithfulness to God led him to be thrown into the lion’s den, where God protected him.
Daniel refused to lie and hide his worship of God. He opened the window and prayed openly. This landed him in the Lion’s den.
But God was with him in the Lion’s den. God will be with you.
Nathan Confronts David: (2 Samuel 12) God will send people to confront your sin
The prophet Nathan confronted King David about his sin, emphasizing the importance of honesty and accountability. David was a man of Godly Character, but he made horrible choices.
David had to hide his sexual sin from Bathsheba. He told little lies that led to Bathsheba’s husband being killed in battle.
The Woman Caught in Adultery: (John 8:1–11) God can see who we really are
Jesus emphasized the importance of truth and honesty when he challenged the crowd, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone.”
Jesus was known for his power of healing and performing miracles. On this day, the miracle was that he saw who the Jewish leaders really were.
These men were held in high regard by everyone. God saw who they really were. And he called them out in front of everyone.
Jesus and the Rich Young Ruler: (Mark 10:17–27) Be honest about your priorities
In the encounter between Jesus and the rich young ruler, we witness Jesus’s deep desire for honesty, both in action and in the heart.
Jesus encouraged the young ruler to be honest about his possessions and priorities.
When the young man approached Jesus seeking guidance on attaining eternal life, Jesus recognized the ruler’s attachment to his wealth. In response, Jesus challenged him to be honest with himself and prioritize spiritual values over material possessions.

The Jewish leaders in the story didn’t want to help and love the injured man. So they pretended they didn’t even see him.
The Samaritan showed honesty. He saw the man. He did something. Who are we ignoring today? Who needs to hear the gospel? Stop pretending you don’t see them.
We have to remember how much God loves the people around us, and we need to love them the way God does.
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector: (Luke 18:9–14) Be honest about your own imperfections
Jesus told a parable about two men praying in the temple, highlighting the honesty of the humble tax collector’s prayer.
The Pharisee, a religious leader, stands before God in the temple and boasts about his righteous deeds, thanking God that he is not like other sinners, including the tax collector.
His prayer is marked by self-righteousness and pride, lacking honesty about his own imperfections.

The story of Abraham telling Pharaoh that his wife, Sarah, was his sister in Genesis 12 presents a complex moral lesson.
